Trip to the Kingdom of Bhutan

On the 17th May we will have a special guest speaker! A man interested in humanity and photography.
One of our own Rotary Club of Berwick members PDG Tim Moore will recount his recent trip to Bhutan, a country of great beauty and danger. We are looking forward to Tim's talk for sure. Obviously I cannot say too much, but I am hoping Tim will be presenting some truly amazing photographs of his trip.

Angelo Lambrinos, Project Director, Transurban The Monash Freeway upgrade between Wellington and Koo Wee Rup roads is part of the West Gate Tunnel Project, addressing a number of critical challenges in relation to traffic, growth and liveability across Melbourne. The West Gate Tunnel Project will provide an alternative to the West Gate Bridge, a second river crossing, and direct access to the Port. Helene and Dennis Livingston will inform the Club and visitors on the laterst activities of BlazeAid, a volunteer-based organisation that works with families and individuals in rural Australia after natural disasters such as fires and floods. Working alongside the rural families, the volunteers help to rebuild fences and other structures that have been damaged or destroyed. The assistance is not only material, as volunteers also help to lift the spirits of people who are often facing their second or third flood event after years of drought, or devastating losses through bushfires. BlazeAid is a volunteer-based organisation that works with families and individuals in rural Australia after natural disasters such as fires and floods, working alongside the rural families to rebuild fences and other structures that have been damaged or destroyed. Rhonda O'Connor is the Mission Director looking after a new $120 million hospital St John of God's is currently building in Berwick, investing in state-of-the-art facilities and equipment to significantly expand the services we deliver to our rapidly growing community. The new hospital will open in January 2018, expanding the locally-based team of health professionals with more than 200 new jobs to become a major employment source and consolidating Berwick as a hub in the Victorian health and education strategic plan. On March 9, 1940 Dr Percy Langmore and his son Dr Leonard Langmore opened the first Berwick and District Bush Nursing Hospital on Gloucester Avenue. Alongside three nurses, they provided hospital services for the 1,000 residents of Berwick. St John of God Health Care continues the legacy of the early pioneers since 2003 and began a period of expansion and modernisation that would help meet the health care demands of the growing population of Casey and Cardinia. The event is sponsored by the Australian National University and the students develop an awareness of the working of the United Nations and of the country that they are representing, having an opportunity to practice and develop their public speaking and debating skills, and gain a better understanding of the international positions of other countries. The Level Crossing Removal Authority was created to oversee the removal of 50 dangerous and congested level crossings across Melbourne. Construction is progressing on several sites, with early consultation and planning on the way for the delivery of the entire program, including the Berwick level crossing with Clyde Road. Mr Greg Tantala, a communications adviser working for the Authority will talk about the progress of the program along the Pakenham line affecting most of the Berwick population. Mental health is a hot topic in our society. The Rotary Club of Berwick, together with the Rotary Clubs of Pakenham and Narre Warren have contributed to addressing the problem through Positive Mental Health forums and raising moneys to train professional counsellors and Prevent Suicide in Youth monitors. Rotarian Vivienne Armstrong has worked tirelessly to assist the community in dealing with mental health issues and will discuss the latest achievements as well as the future activities planned.
