Berwick Cemetery

The Rotary Club of Berwick has a strong connection with the history of Berwick. Many of its members have been leaders in the foundations of our community. As true leaders, they have set a path for others to follow. Allan Funston was such a leader and a Rotarian. Listen to Allan by clicking the links below from the oral histories library:

Allan Funston - Farmer and Berwick Cemetery Trustee

Part 1 (30 mins) | Part 2 (18 mins)

Reminiscences of Berwick during the Depression and World War II.

Recorded by Un-Named Student, Berwick Secondary School on 22/08/1985.

As part of our projects to serve our community, our members and our friends descend on the Berwick Cemetery in January each year to do a "make over". Really it is a time to help tidy up the Cemetery, restore what we can and have some fun along the way. We work away to set (achievable) tasks to ensure the most urgent work is done first. It is a great feeling to be working for the community at such a basic level, no frills, no fanfare.

This year (2015), we opened the Allan Funston Memorial Rotunda. Betty Funston, Allan's wife did the honours by cutting the ribbon.

We are proud of our Clubs involvement with the Berwick and Harkaway Cemetery Trust for the last 51 years.
