From Art Screen delivery and pick up, managing Rotary business at the Board meeting,
lifting the lid on mental illness and raise some much needed funds in support and celebrating the 40th Anniversary of local icon - the “Berwick College”, members of the Rotary Club of Berwick continue to be engaged in the local community. The spirit of service above self and giving is alive and well at the Rotary Club of Berwick.
On Monday night we had our fourth Board meeting for the year and it was another productive two hours of discussion, debate and resolution. In the spirit of transparency the minutes will be posted in the members’ section of our Club website for all members to read.
This week our guest speaker was PP Viv Armstrong, who talked about her role as
Australian Rotary Health (ARH) representative for District 9820.
Australian Rotary Health is one of the largest research charities in Australia, with every cent going toward the funding of PHD scholarships and research grants. The main focus is on mental health research, but there are also PHD scholarships awarded for general areas such as multiple sclerosis, diabetes, aboriginal health and many others. Viv earned degrees in psychology and sociology as a mature age student. She has a severely disabled son, a wealth of knowledge when it comes to stress and a strong commitment to spread the word about Mental Health First Aid and Lift the Lid.
Several reports and updates were received during the Wednesday meeting,
all expertly managed by Di Scheepers our Chairperson for the meeting. Well done Di!

President Elect (PE) Lea Paton spoke about the District Conference and provided members with details of available accommodation. Members are encouraged to stay at the same hotel, which Lea will be able to coordinate.

Our outbound youth exchange student Alex Krann is doing very well and has been a great ambassador for his family, his school, the Rotary Club of Berwick, and the District. He has adapted very well to his surrounds and seems to have adopted the local culture with relative ease!!
I asked Guest, Ryan Brown, to please put his hand into my Black Bag and find a ticket and give it to me The ticket Ryan chose just happened to belong to his Mum – PP Viv Armstrong.
He couldn’t believe the coincidence and Viv was surprised. She pulled the King of Spades from the deck. The leaves 23 cards in the deck.
The Joker was a few cards away but never mind the Joker is there for the next person who has a chance to try to choose him.
At the back of the Rotary Club Handbook there is a heading Acronyms. If you don’t have one of these handbooks or are new to reading about Rotary, these acronyms can perhaps cause confusion.
