From the President's Desk
This week we had the privilege to welcome our guest
speakers Dennis and Helene Livingstone.

Their presentation on BlazeAid was most informative and
members were simply amazed by the great work of the volunteers.

This is certainly an organisation worth supporting.

Our visitors this week included Cheryl Zuhlsdorff and Gaetano Fina, and as always they were warmly
welcomed by members. We were also happy to welcome back some familiar faces in Sergeant David
Nutter (who nearly got lucky with the Joker's Wild), and Russell Dunn, fresh
from Harvey Bay and sporting a tan that almost put the President to shame...

Bulletin Editor, Sandi Tarant, and her team are to be commended for yet another informative
and well presented edition of the Spoke n Words. Well done!!

Hope you enjoy the read, and please let Sandi know if you have any topics or
subjects that you would like to see covered in future editions...
Rising from the ashes... The Creation of BlazeAid
Helene and Dennis Livingston made a most informative presentation to our Club last night.

We believe their story is very inspirational and by the time you finish reading this article perhaps you will contact BlazeAid  and register as a volunteer so you will be
prepared  in case of more catastrophes that seem to loom over our fair country once in a while.   http://blazeaid.com

The catastrophic events of 7 February 2009, which later became known as "Black Saturday",
is where Helene's and David's presentation begins.

Kevin and Rhonda Butler, two farmers in Kilmore East lost their fencing during this inferno and they needed to quickly secure their sheep to keep them from straying on to the Hume Highway. They sought assistance from family, friends and local volunteers to help rebuild 3km of fencing.

What would have taken months to rebuild on their own, was completed within ten days. Grateful for the assistance they received, Rhonda and Kevin decided to help other farmers with their burned fencing.

It would prove to be a huge task, as the fire had raged over a large area of Central Victoria, from Kilmore East across to Murrundindi and south to Kinglake.

Thus, BlazeAid was born.

The Latest on the South East Feast
The "South East Feast" is fast shaping up as the marquee event for the Casey
community and beyond.

This "MUST NOT MISS" cultural event is the product of months of collaboration
between the Nossal College and the Rotary Club of Berwick.

Past President (PP) Jack Kraan, who has been the club's lead representative and an
inspirational figure on the project, provided members with a progress report...

JOKER'S WILD

The Jackpot was $1,239.75
 this week and we had
a bit of fun.

Gaetano, a visitor, drew the David Nutter's ticket.

Fortunately for most... David drew the Two of Clubs
from the deck and the joker was a long way off.

To say that he was disappointed would be an
understatement.  Pictures tell a thousand words
and David's expression in this photo says it all...

There are now 31 cards left in the deck.

So the odds of winning next week are better.
Maybe David will be lucky next week.

Joker's Wild is a fun session and members look forward to walking away with the jackpot each week!!
Good luck all for next week.
