FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK - 21 FEBRUARY, 2018
Welcome to the 30th edition of Spoke ‘n’ Words.

“Be the Inspiration” was unveiled to the world last week as the Rotary International Presidential Theme for 2018-19. In unveiling the new theme Rotary International President-elect Barry Rassin challenged incoming district governors to inspire club presidents and Rotarians in their districts, “to want to change, to want to do more and to want to reach their own potential.” I look forward to working with President-elect Lea Paton and her Board and members of the Rotary Club of Berwick to “Be the Inspiration”.

At our meeting on Wednesday the 21st of February members, visitors and guests were on hand to hear renowned physiotherapist John Wilson’s talk on migraine headaches. John told us about the different types of headaches and how they can be identified. A migraine headache is the effect of other ailments in the body which if left untreated that can be fatal. John’s extensive experience in the field made for a very interesting and engaging presentation.

Rotary International President-elect Barry Rassin laid out his vision for the future of the organization last week, calling on leaders to work for a sustainable future and to inspire Rotarians and the community at large.

Rassin, a member of the Rotary Club of East Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas, unveiled the 2018-19 presidential theme, Be the Inspiration, to incoming district governors at Rotary’s International Assembly in San Diego, California, USA. “I want you to inspire in your clubs, your Rotarians, that desire for something greater. RC OF BERWICK KICKING GOALS FOR MENTAL HEALTH
A little while ago, the Rotary Club of Berwick applied for a second District Grant of $1000 to train Scout Leaders in Mental Health First Aid. This Grant was approved just before Christmas. The Club has also put a further $2000 (the Club must match at least what is applied for through District) and now the project is live.
Viv Armstrong is running this project.
1. Along with our $1000 grant from District, we have $2000 from the club to go towards training scout leaders in MHFA (Mental Health First Aid).

Inductions

JOKER'S WILD
Joker's Wild this week had many Rotarians more than interested in buying into this draw.
Guest Speaker John Wilson was invited to pick the winning ticket stub from the black bag.  Jenny Marshall held up the ticket that John took from the bag.

Jenny cut into the 16 cards offered and got the 6 of Hearts.  Everyone cheered.  Now they all get another chance at $2,173.25 from 15 Cards next time we play Joker's Wild.

The Joker was a few cards away when we checked the deck.  With only 15 cards left in the deck, chances are that the jackpot will go off VERY soon.

Make sure to grab your tickets from Sandi before the start of the meeting. As the saying goes... "You've got to be in it to win it!"  Good Luck!!!
