Visitors and Rotarians are welcome.

Hi $FIRST_NAME$,

It is good to be back in action for the New Year and be reunited with the Rotary family. There is something very comforting about being amongst a group of people who get on together and enjoy doing something for others while having a great time doing it. Trevor, pictured here, is a person who has a wonderful work ethic. He just gets on with whatever job he takes on and makes the wheels turn. In fact, we have quite a few members just like Trevor, each with their own areas of action, expertise and achievement. When a club brings together the right mix of people, nothing is too hard and there is plenty of time to enjoy the achievements. Here's to another great year of Rotary!

Now a word from the President
Hi everyone, and wasn’t it good to get everyone together again on Wednesday night back at Holm Park?

Firstly, although I couldn’t make it to the cemetery clean-up, it was terrific to hear first-hand how well attended the evening was, how good the BBQ at the end of the afternoon was and what Funno and the entire team created a terrific outcome.

I also wanted to send a shout-out to every Rotarian who had a role to play in the recent Bunning BBQ day. It was a great success thanks to all who were involved. Special thanks to Jeanette Blackwood for arranging everything…..a job well done. Our crew is near the back, where the patrons are. I am sure if you look hard enough, you will spot them. smiley

In addition, I was thrilled that we had three guests come along and hear about what had been going on behind the scenes and what was ahead on the runway. Yep, we are in the preparation and planning phase for the Presentation Balls for 2024, and things are moving along well, thanks to the valuable input from both Michele & Andrew Somers.

The two events are on Wednesday, 16 May & Thursday, 16 May, and dance practice kicks off on Monday, 26 February.
Here is a copy of the schedule:

It’s suitable for everyone to have 2 Rotarians attend each session to help with the overall relationships and ensure that the practice sound system is set up and disassembled each week.
Please let me know which dates and times you might be available to assist with this.

Also, we want to have 10 Rotarians there on the 15th and 16th of May, respectively, to help welcome guests, set up, and enjoy the evening. The earlier we can get names locked in, the better. Just let me know how you can help.
On Wednesday night, I shared how essential relationships and visibility are to our overall success. The next piece in that puzzle will be put in place when a few of us will be helping to cook some 600 sausages at the Berwick Campus of the Chisolm Institute next Tuesday, 13 February. Thanks to those who are helping out on the day. We’ll fly the Rotary flags with pride.

Today I caught up with Marta who, as you know has been working on our club program. It was terrific to hear that Marta has returned to her well-loved vocation in the travel industry and keeping her Bunnings gig alive but with reduced hours. The unintended consequence of this is that Marta has become tremendously time poor and isn’t able to keep putting time into the program. What we need right now is someone who can take up this critical task (& I reckon it’s best to have 2 team members who can help and support each other) for the balance of the Rotary year.

Marta is going to send me her work in progress, which have some really interesting speakers who just need to commit and solidify in our program.
Could I please call on everyone within the club…………If you have the capacity and motivation to get involved in making our weekly meetings interesting by taking up the reins of program director, please contact me as quickly as you can on 0418 207 421 and right now I would be thrilled if it were a team of 2.

Next week, Michelle Rodrigues will give us behind her badge and share more about herself. I know there is plenty to share, including her involvement in the Rotary family overseas. Michelle has a rich story to tell, and I’m sure it will be well embraced.

I won’t be there next week as I will be in Bali so I hope everyone enjoys the meeting next week. Thanks in advance to the Chisolm BBQ crew and in signing off I look forward to hearing from everyone who can help with the Presentation Balls and perhaps even more critically, the meeting Program.

Have a terrific weekend all.

Berwick Cemetary Clean up.

The Rotary Club of Berwick has had its annual cemetery clean-up, a yearly event for almost 60 years. It is a great project that connects us to the community and its rich history. It is an opportunity for friends and family to join us.

From the beginning

The first four Rotarians. From left: Gustavus Loehr, Silvester Schiele, Hiram E. Shorey, Paul P. Harris.
On 23 February 1905, Paul P. Harris, Gustavus Loehr, Silvester Schiele, and Hiram E. Shorey gathered in Loehr’s office for what would become known as the first Rotary club meeting.
Harris’ desire for camaraderie among business associates brought together these four men and eventually led to an international organization of service and fellowship.
Each of the first four Rotarians brought different professional perspectives to the organisation.
Congratulations Liam

The Rotary Club of Ballymena proudly celebrated its 80th anniversary with the induction of a local Hollywood star! 🌟
Liam Neeson, star of films such as 'Taken', 'Schindler's List' and 'Batman Begins', received an honorary membership from the County Antrim-based club and sent a video message from his home in New York commending the dedication of the club's members ❤️
Friendship, a good reason to be in the Rotary Family

Personal relationships play a crucial role in your well-being. Rotary is an example of a larger community where individuals come together, fostering a sense of connection, shared purpose, and support that contributes significantly to overall well-being. Sure, you have to put some effort into making friends, but we have many wonderful people in our Club who are easy to get to know.

  1. Emotional Support: Personal relationships provide a support system for handling life's challenges. Friends, family, and romantic partners offer emotional support during difficult times, helping you cope with stress, grief, and other emotional burdens.

  2. Social Connection: Humans are social beings, and maintaining personal relationships satisfies the basic human need for social connection. Interacting with others helps combat loneliness and contributes to a sense of belonging, which is essential for overall well-being.

  3. Mental Health: Positive personal relationships are linked to better mental health. Engaging in meaningful connections can reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, enhance self-esteem, and improve overall psychological well-being.

  4. Physical Health: Research indicates that strong social ties are associated with better physical health. People with supportive relationships tend to have lower rates of chronic diseases, faster recovery from illnesses, and longer life expectancy.

  5. Stress Reduction: Having someone to share your thoughts and feelings with can alleviate stress. Supportive relationships act as a buffer against life's challenges, reducing the impact of stressors on your mental and physical health.

  6. Increased Happiness: Meaningful connections contribute to a sense of joy and happiness. Sharing positive experiences, accomplishments, and moments of joy with others enhances life satisfaction.

  7. Improved Coping Mechanisms: Personal relationships provide a platform for learning effective coping mechanisms. When facing difficulties, the guidance and advice from trusted individuals can help you navigate challenges more successfully.

  8. Enhanced Communication Skills: Interacting with others helps develop communication skills. Effective communication is vital for expressing emotions, resolving conflicts, and building strong connections with those around you.

  9. Sense of Purpose: Personal relationships often contribute to a sense of purpose and meaning in life. The bonds formed with family and friends create a support network that can motivate and inspire you to pursue your goals.

  10. Quality of Life: Ultimately, the quality of your personal relationships significantly influences your overall quality of life. Positive connections enhance your well-being, while strained or negative relationships can have detrimental effects.

Now, while I know that being part of the Rotary family has benefited my life, some will know of people who would also benefit from joining us. Recently retired, who are bored with travelling. 45+ year-olds who have practical skills and want to put their skills to work in the community. People who are looking for purpose and are having trouble finding it. If you know any of these sorts of people, please take the time to tell them about your Rotary experiences and invite them to a meeting to see what we are really like.
