It’s always a bit of a gamble when you have a meeting with no guest speaker and you call it a Club Service night. I am so pleased and very proud of the members we have, as those who could come, came out in force to hear the plans for the club in the next 12 months, to have a say about some events and activities we are looking at running and to put their name down to be active members of the club. As a Board, we are so happy that we have such a supportive group of members, who only want the best for our club.
We still have a couple of blank spaces on our organisation structure sheet, which I am confident will be filled by members who were not able to attend on the night. I would especially like to thank the members of the Board, who each presented a brief snapshot of the year and David Button, who gave us all a sneak peek into what he has been doing on the District website. I would also like to thank the members who attended and who eagerly showed their support of some of the extra things which may take place in the coming year…and beyond.
Many members also took the opportunity to upload our new digital handbook on their phones, thanks to the great work of PP Jen. If you are having any problems getting it up and going, please reach out to Jen or Andrew, who both are up to speed with how to get it working.
In the next couple of days secretary Andrew will send out a brief outline of what was discussed, what members were in support of us doing and the updated organisational structure, with still a few gaps to fill. This will ensure every member knows what is going on in our club.
For our next meeting we are venturing into the Winter Night Market at Queen Victoria Market. All the details are on the flyer and in the event invitation. When we get there, we can warm up with some global street food and some winter comfort eats, such as raclette-loaded sandwiches, loaded baked potatoes, crispy soft shell crab burgers and fried pasta cups and also cosy up with some mulled wine or campfire cocktails, hot chocolates and sweet winter treats. And, if that does not tempt you to join us, there is also a mix of specialty traders, local makers and artisan stalls offering handmade jewellery, vintage fashion, winter accessories and unique gifts. We can also experience the best of Melbourne’s winter with some live music, with roving performances taking place throughout the evening.
For those of us who may need it, we have also booked the last table available, so there will be a small amount of seating and a meeting place for us all, which we can share during the night.
Please make sure you book in if you are coming, and don’t forget to see if any of your family and friends would like to join us, so that we know who to look out for as we travel into town on the train. Having the new digital handbook on my phone means I can text those of you who are coming with information about the carriage we
are in, once we have got on the train at East Pakenham.
If you cannot make the train at the times listed, you are welcome to catch a later one (they leave every 20 minutes). Just make sure you let us know you are coming, so we can keep an eye out for you at QVM. If any of you are coming on another line, or driving in, please let us know, so we know you are joining us.
And lastly, make sure you rug up, as it is an outside event and the nights can be pretty cold!
It was great to hear that our BBQ was out and about on Sunday morning, with the crew of Jack, Terry, Gus and Andrew, cooking up a storm for the City of Casey’s National Tree Planting day. 5,000 trees were planted in Cranbourne West to help create an important habitat for local wildlife, as part of a nature corridor that will
eventually link to Brooklyn Greens Reserve.
Don’t forget, the Rotary Club of Berwick’s BBQ will be out again soon, for our Club’s tree planting day, on Sunday 30 th August.
