Another busy week starting with two art screen deliveries to Elsternwick and Hampton Park. Thank you to the members who helped out on Monday. Following this Eric and Funno headed to Endeavour Hills for a RORP playground harvest. Luckily the contractor was onsite to help out, leaving the boys to stand around and have a chin wag.
Wednesday was another busy one, with myself and Dave Button heading to Beaconhills College to see the ceremony for the installation of a second peace pole at the Pakenham Campus. It was a wonderful event with choirs, many speakers and Dave did a great job representing the Rotary Club. The school was very grateful to David and the club for our donation of the pole.
Following this it was up to Monbulk for our Lawn Bowls Challenge. Another fun night, while we put up a great fight with some excellent bowling from many of our members, unfortunately we went down 16 to 20 for another loss to Monbulk. But the real goal is fun and fellowship and to continue this great tradition.
While the club didn't bring home the trophy, over the ditch in Tasmania Andrew and Michele did the club proud by winning the lawn bowls challenge at the district Conference! Well done team.
Friday was again the Mock Interviews at Nossal High. Myself, Marta and Trevor attended the interviews which was a really well run day. The students were exceptional, well spoken, intelligent young people.
Next Week
Our speaker next week will be John 'Pokey' Poke, our community group leader. Pokey will be giving us some updates from the district level and sharing information with our club, while also coming along to get to know the members of our club.
Meanwhile... somewhere on a tropical island I will be spending the week with a good book, a quiet cocktail or two and peace a quiet, celebrating my upcoming birthday with a few friends. So Gus will be chairing the meeting and Isobel will be welcoming you all along to the meeting.
SJOG Working Bee - 28 March
Don't forget to put in your diaries, the next working bee at St John of God Hospital will be held on Saturday 28 March. All hands on deck and Geoff will provide more details at the meeting this week.
Donations in Kind Request
DiK is collecting tools: wheelbarrows, shovels, rakes, hammers, blowers, forks, gardening and fencing equipment, electrical leads and other items suitable to help the bushfire affected communities clean up and regain their lives.
Items can be delivered to DiK on Tuesday and Thursday between 10-3, but if you are interested please let me know and we can organise a collection of items to be sent over together. For questions on what they would like contact whatsnew@rotarydik.org.
The Big Birthday Party
On Wednesday 29 April, we will be celebrating the club's 65th birthday (which is 3 May) and my 40th birthday (which is 30 April).
I would like to create a slideshow of photos of ALL members and partners at their 40th birthday! So between now and the end of April please email 1-3 photos of you when you were either at your 40th birthday party or when you were 40. Whether you're able to attend on the night or not, we would love to have members and partners photos included in the slideshow to be part of the night.
Thanks,
Jen
